Car Audi 80 is actuated by engines of various designs and quantity of cylinders. The palette is stretched from 4 to 6-cylinder motors. It is even more quantity впрысковых systems. To the petrol engines described in this management it is necessary to add two more essentially various diesel engines. So in variety of a lack is not present, as the following table proves.

The 4-cylinder engine in a cut

Initially designed for Audi 80, this motor is applied also for Audi 100 and for фольксвагеновских models Golf, Jetta, Passat. Its major constructive signs: the 4-cylinder engine with the top arrangement of a camshaft. The drive of valves is carried out by means of hydraulic тарельчатых pushers. The intermediate shaft results the oil pump and the ignition distributor. The drive of distributive and intermediate shaft is carried out by means of a gear belt.

The basic constructive signs of the 4-cylinder engine correspond also to the 5-cylinder engine presented for the first time in 1976 on Audi 100. It is Enough to name only two common features – this engine also is supplied by a gear belt for a drive of a camshaft and the pump of a cooling liquid, and in this engine for reduction of valves are used тарельчатые hydraulic pushers.

The design of a cranked shaft of the 5-cylinder engine is especially interesting: шатунные necks of a cranked shaft are at an angle in 72 under the relation to each other, for each cylinder on a shaft stand on two counterbalances. Further: specially organised disbalance of a flywheel and also damper on its forward end serve for absorption крутильных fluctuations.

Anew developed to representation of fourth generation Audi 100 in 1991 the 6-cylinder V-shaped engine represents very compact unit specially created for a longitudinal arrangement. Two camshafts of the top arrangement put in action by gear belts operate valves by means of тарельчатых pushers. In space between heads of cylinders the final gas pipeline is placed.

The 2,8-litre version is equipped by an inlet gas pipeline with changeable length of a path which changes active length of inlet channels depending on a range of frequency of rotation. Thus in all ranges of frequencies of rotation the optimum twisting moment of the engine is reached. It is necessary to mention also system of ignition without the distributor which is in more details described in the head ignition System.
